HealthMedia is a high-growth, profitable Software as a Service business which competes in the health care market. We have designed and built a technology and methodology that allows us to emulate a nurse-counseling session—without the costly counselor. We apply this methodology to applications in the areas of wellness, disease management, behavioral health and medication adherence—which yields high efficacy and high reach at very low cost. HealthMedia has blue chip customers and partners as employers, health plans, behavioral health organizations and pharmaceutical companies.

Board of Directors

HealthMedia’s board of directors is comprised of seasoned professionals from the fields of software, technology, healthcare, and investment banking. Board members are:

Victor J. Stretcher, Ph.D. Founder, Chief Science Officer, HealthMedia, Inc. and Chairman of the Board S H

Dr. Strecher is a renowned speaker, researcher, and author in the field of health behavior change. The founder of HealthMedia and its Chairman of the Board and Chief Science Officer, Dr. Strecher is a Professor of Health Behavior and Education at the University of Michigan School of Public Health where he founded the Center for Health Communications Research and directs the Health Media Research Lab. Since 1995, Dr. Strecher has also served as Associate Director at the University of Michigan Comprehensive Cancer Center.

Before coming to Michigan, Dr. Strecher served in a variety of positions at the University of North Carolina. He was Associate Professor in the Department of Health Education and Health Behavior from 1990 to 1995 and also the Director of the Health Communications Research Laboratory at the School of Public Health from 1992 to 1995. Dr. Strecher was an Assistant Professor in the Department of Health Behavior and Health Education from 1984 to 1990 and a Research Associate for the Health Services Research Center from 1985 to 1995. From 1983 to 1984, he was an Assistant Professor at Temple University's Department of Health Education. Dr. Strecher holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Michigan State University and a Masters in Public Health and Ph.D. in Health Behavior and Health Education from the University of Michigan.

Koleman E. Karleski, Managing Director, Chrysalis Ventures S H

Koleman joined Chrysalis in 1997 and is currently a Managing Director. His focus is on healthcare services and technology, and business services. At Chrysalis, Koleman has worked with Aperture Credentialing (sold to a subsidiary of UnitedHealth Group), Manorhouse Assisted Living (sold to LifeTrust Assisted Living), Primis (sold to LandAmerica Financial Group), and TechRepublic (sold to Gartner Group, Inc.). He currently serves on the Board of AfterBOT, FWI, HealthMedia, and MedServe. He also spearheads Chrysalis’ marketing and fundraising efforts. Prior to Chrysalis, Koleman worked for Providian Corporation's Capital Management business unit where he focused on strategic planning and business development.

Tim Petersen, Managing Director, Arboretum Ventures S H

In 2002, Tim joined partner Jan Garfinkle in launching Arboretum Ventures. Tim serves on the Board of Directors of Accuri Cytometers, Advanced ICU Care, HealthMedia, KFx Medical, and Thermocure, five of Arboretum’s portfolio investments, and previously sat on the Board of Asterand (LSE: ATD). Immediately prior to Arboretum, Tim was the Managing Director of the Zell Lurie Institute for Entrepreneurial Studies at the University of Michigan. He also directed the activities of the Wolverine Venture Fund, an evergreen fund that includes the active participation of Michigan’s MBA students. Previously, Tim spent nine years at Industrial Economics, Inc., becoming a member of the firm’s senior management team in 1991. Industrial Economics, founded in the early 1980’s in Cambridge, MA, is a leader in the fields of natural resource economics and environmental science.

Rick Snyder, Independent
(Chairman of the Board, Gateway Inc.) S H

Mr. Snyder serves as the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Ardesta, LLC, in Ann Arbor, Michigan, a company focused on bringing small tech products to the global marketplace, a position he has held since 2000. Between 1997 and 2000, he was President of Avalon Investments, a venture capital management company also headquartered in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Before Avalon Investments, Mr. Snyder served as Gateway's President and Chief Operating Officer from January 1996 until his resignation in August 1997 and was Gateway's Executive Vice President from July 1991 until January 1996. Mr. Snyder also served as Gateway's interim Chief Executive Officer from February 2006 until September 2006. Mr. Snyder serves on the boards of various portfolio companies of Ardesta and Avalon Technology. He is also a member of the University of Michigan's LS&A National Advisory Committee, the Samuel Zell & Robert H. Lurie Institute for Entrepreneurial Studies Advisory Board, the University of Michigan's Technology Transfer National Advisory Committee, the Henry Ford Board of Trustees, The Nature Conservancy Michigan Chapter, the Board of the Sphinx Organization and is Chairman of Ann Arbor SPARK.

Michael Mikalsky, Portfolio Manager, Avalon Capital S H

Joining Avalon in 2004, Mike is responsible for the management of Avalon Investments private equity portfolio and is charged with finding new investment opportunities for the company. He has 10 years of professional experience reflecting corporate finance, buyouts, venture/angel capital, consulting, and start-ups. Prior to joining Avalon, Mike worked as a business consultant providing strategic, financial, and management solutions to new and existing businesses on the West and East coasts. Before that he worked for a private equity firm in Santa Barbara California transacting leverage acquisitions. The portfolio of assets managed included retail petroleum, food manufacturing, and venture capital investments representing revenues in excess of $500 million. Earlier in his career he worked in corporate finance for the publicly traded aerospace company Rohr Inc. and later BFGoodrich.

Ted Dacko, President and CEO, HealthMedia Inc. S H

Ted serves as President and Chief Executive Officer of HealthMedia, Inc. He has over 30 years of experience in executive-level management, including sales, marketing, and the Chief Executive Office, principally in the area of software applications and solutions. Prior to HealthMedia, Ted served as President and CEO at Centromine, an Internet-based behavioral health firm, headquartered in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Ted holds a Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics from Waynesburg College in Waynesburg, Pennsylvania, and a Master's Degree in Mathematics from The College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia.
