HealthMedia Kicks Off ENGAGE Conference

Industry Leaders along with Mike Huckabee Share Behavior Change Successes and Discuss Healthcare Strategies and Trends

Today, HealthMedia, the global leader in scalable behavior change interventions with outcomes, kicked off ENGAGE 2008, its second annual customer conference which was attended by 250 industry experts and leading employers and health plans throughout the country. HealthMedia President and CEO Ted Dacko provided a preview of the company’s strategic focus, followed by keynote speaker Mike Huckabee, former Arkansas Governor and presidential candidate. HealthMedia and Huckabee share a vision of a shift in focus on prevention and early intervention as critical to solving the country’s health crisis, which is placing increasing burden on employers and health plans.

“If more of our nation’s employers took advantage of the types of programs HealthMedia has to offer, we would have a healthier workforce and lower employer healthcare costs,” Huckabee said. Governor Huckabee oversaw the “Healthy Arkansas” initiative, which used HealthMedia behavior change interventions to improve the health of State of Arkansas employees.

HealthMedia also recognized some of its customers and partners for their outstanding outcomes and achievements in engaging their populations in using the online behavior change interventions. Award winners include Kaiser Permanente, eBay, Baystate Health, Health Alliance Plan of Michigan (HAP), HMSA (Blue Cross Blue Shield of Hawaii), and Corphealth.

“Congratulations to these organizations – they truly ‘get it’,” Dacko said. “They have achieved a measurable return on their investment in HealthMedia’s tailored behavior change interventions while helping their employees and members battle insomnia, weight loss, depression, stress, chronic pain and other serious medical conditions – proving that participation, tailoring, and individualized interventions can have a meaningful impact on productivity and the bottom line.”

Before an audience of HealthMedia customers and industry leaders, Dacko further outlined the company’s business strategy and focus, including:

Investing in the latest technology: HealthMedia will remain on the cutting edge, utilizing its Fusion technology to create new and innovative programs, allow for faster product development, and facilitate better integration between HealthMedia interventions and other products and services.

Filling industry voids/Tying components together: HealthMedia will continue its Gaps and Glue strategy by identifying industry gaps in care and addressing unmet customer needs as it has already done for insomnia, depression, and pain – among the highest drivers of productivity impairment yet least addressed conditions. The company will also implement large-scale, national initiatives to call attention to these issues and promote intervention and treatment. In addition, the company will tie disparate components of care together with its HRA, Chronic Condition Skill development and Connect products. These will help better identify participants’ needs and recruit them into the most appropriate intervention based on their need, motivation, and self-confidence. The actual intervention could be delivered electronically, through HealthMedia, or telephonically or on-site thorough one of its partners.

Connecting with the end user: HealthMedia will continue to focus on participation and engagement through a range of software, services, and consulting for incentive management, intelligent recruitment, and campaign management. HealthMedia’s unique tailoring capabilities combined with proven behavioral science methodologies deliver a longitudinal solution that not only drives participation into its programs but motivates individuals to want to become healthier and guides them into behavior change interventions.

Measuring outcomes with unparalleled strategic tools: HealthMedia continues to build on its innovative package of products and services including: pre-packaged reports and multi-dimensional analytics to allow customers to analyze outcomes and results; dashboard reporting to identify trends and variances; and consulting services for performing special projects such as claims-based analysis.

ENGAGE continues through April 9 with presentations from Graham Kerr (a.k.a. “The Galloping Gourmet”) and industry leaders and influencers discussing productivity, outcomes, technology, and participation.
