Balance™ is unlike any other weight loss solution in the market today. It addresses three critical elements of successful weight loss and maintenance: mind (psychological, emotional, and behavioral patterns), body (physical activity patterns), and food (nutritional habits). This three-pronged methodology is significantly more comprehensive than traditional weight management interventions and support programs.

Balance™ also includes dynamic interactive tools and videos to boost engagement and outcomes: iPod™-enabled exercise videos, goal tracking tools, a detailed recipe library, and much more.

Utilizing the mind, body, and food foundation, Balance™ emulates a health coaching session, without the coach, to deliver an individually tailored weight loss and maintenance plan that addresses each participant’s unique needs—taking into account the individual’s motivation, confidence, needs, and barriers to change. The program also assesses and addresses obesity-related co-morbidities and co-behavioral issues such as stress, heart disease, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, depression, and diabetes.

Proven Clinical Results

Kaiser Permanente conducted a one year randomized control trial using HealthMedia® Balance™ vs. other non-tailored Web solutions. Results showed that Balance™ participants used 1.1 fewer outpatient visits than the control group, lost 2 times more weight, and had higher plan satisfaction. As a result, Kaiser Permanente and HealthMedia jointly won the prestigious C. Everett Koop National Health Award: Honorable Mention in 2004 for Balance™. Read more about this award.
