Back Pain. Strategies and tools to help care for and prevent back pain. HealthMedia CARE® for Your Back

HealthMedia CARE® for Your Back

Back problems are impacting your white-collar workforce. HealthMedia CARE® for Your Back assesses and addresses risk factors associated with back pain to provide individually personalized prevention and management techniques for each participant. The program covers the following areas:

  • Assessment of the level of pain
  • Methods used to control the pain
  • Concerns and feelings toward back pain
  • Stress and the pain cycle
  • Perceptions and pain interference
  • Pain on the job and impact on productivity
  • Others’ reactions to back pain
  • Goal setting
  • Working with health care providers and therapists
  • Motivation and self-confidence

HealthMedia CARE® for Your Back emulates a health coaching session, without the coach, to deliver an individually-tailored back pain prevention and/or management plan. Each individual’s action plan includes engaging multimedia tools geared specifically for a white-collar work force: stretching exercises, proper lifting techniques, the stress-pain cycle, a medical library, and iPod™-enabled videos that teach proper posture at the desk and when working with computers.

We often think that back pain is limited to physically demanding professions such as plumbers, construction workers, and drivers. However, back injuries and their associated effects are extremely prevalent in the white collar work force, due to stress and poor posture. This not only impacts medical utilization, but impairs productivity while both on and off the job.

Back pain is the number one musculoskeletal condition and the number two overall health condition that increases medical utilization.
